AT 20 months, C is a very big, sturdy girl. She wears a size 3 or even a size 4 in all her dresses, and she is getting pretty heavy to lug around. With her pudgy, big boned frame, blond hair and bright blue eyes, I joke that she should wear a helmet with horns, and belt out some opera (probably Wagner). She is clearly a throwback to my Swedish relatives (my paternal grandmother is a Johanssen).
She had her 18 month check-up last week (yes, we are slackers on that whole check-up timetable.) and we got her stats. She is in the 50th percentile for height, which surprised me. She seems much taller than that, I guess becase she’s such a big girl in general. She weighs about 30 lbs, which puts her in about the 90th percentile for weight. And her head? Well, it’s back on the charts now. It had been so large that it fell outside the normal percentile curve, but it has now falen back down to the 95th percentile. I guess she’s finally growing into it. Of course, we tell her that her head is so big because it’s so full of brains.
All 3 of her older siblings were on the small side to very small side (J) as babies and toddlers, so this large child is an outlier in our family. It’s hard to believe that this is the same human being (see photo below) who weighed less than six pounds 20 months ago.
