If one considers that women in the U.S. live on average about six years longer than men, it makes perfect sense for an older woman to marry a younger man.
Considering the reluctance of many men to take care of themselves physically, older women are quite likely to still outlive their younger spouses. In our own families, we see instances of widows who outlive their husbands by 10 to 20 years.
