The Henry Louis Granju Memorial Scholarship Fund – Please Help Us Get The Word Out

In memory of Henry, our family is starting what we hope to grow into a permanent, endowed fund with non-profit status to provide funds for families who are struggling to pay the costs of drug and alcohol treatment for their children. Now Knoxville music legend Carl Snow has set up a wonderful way for people to donate to Henry’s Fund by offering $1 downloads of the GORGEOUS song he wrote about our boy. Just visit Carl’s site and all the details are there. It’s easy as pie, and we would really appreciate your support for what we plan to grow into a meaningful legacy of a wonderful child taken too soon by a terrible epidemic sweeping our nation’s children.

Thank you for considering donating to Henry’s Fund. You will love the beautiful song. And thank you, THANK YOU Carl!

  1. Much luck with this to you. And, there's an envelope on my desk, already stamped, just waiting 'til I leave and walk by a mailbox…

  2. I will post a link on my blog as well and on Facebook. You're doing a great thing for families who would not be able to fund their childs treatment on their own.

  3. My check has been sent, and I announced the fund on my blog, spittin
grits.blogspot.com. My heart and thoughts are with you.

  4. I thought about asking whether the song could be available for download/donation but didn't want to add to your burden. Thank you and thanks to all who have made it possible.

  5. Is there a paypal account set up to donate directly? Your family is in my thoughts and prayers, I am so sorry for your loss.

  6. Thank you for sharing Henry with us. His story has allowed me to find joy in days that seem to be very tough for me as a stay at home mom of 2 under 3! We will continue to pray for you and your family. Please know that you all are loved even though we have never met:) Henry's life has made an impact on me. Your sweet baby girl will have a big brother that will forever be watching over her!

  7. I watched your video with sadness but familiarity. For all of the days I've been following your blog I can only tell you that it seems like a million times the idea popped into my mind, "This could have been me"'
"This could have been my son"

For today, I am grateful. Today, my son is still embracing his recovery (5 years this past March). His years of using reflect Henry's. For some reason, he got to 20 years old, still alive, and for some reason began his road to recovery. Today I am grateful. I am cautiously optimistic.

Remember all the good things about Henry. Just from what I read here, I know there were many. Embrace your little ones. We all only have this moment. Try not to dwell on the justice and revenge part too much for there is much to experience and cherish. It will not help Henry now. It would be a tragedy if these "ruffian criminals" take any more of your time and emotion away from your family. They will fall again on their own.

  8. I'm so overwhelmed. I've always loved your family so much. It's been many years since we've connected. But I have thought of the Granju family often. I'm grateful for knowing Henry, he was such a beautiful child. Katie you have always been an inspiration to me and you continue to be. I haven't known a life void of being affected by addiction as a family member. It is not an easy cross to bare from any side of the line, nor for anyone involved. My heart aches for all you have had to and do bare. I would appreciate giving any involvement that you should need. Please feel free to contact me at anytime. 865-356-0279. Love always, Melia Whitson

  9. Katie,
I was/am deeply saddened by the news of Henry's death. I had the honor and privilege of seeing Henry at his worst and best. Henry was one of the most challenging students I ever worked with, which made him special. I shall remember his deep convictions for what he believed in which had it's shadow and gold. His passing has only stirred my deep passion for erradicating this chronic, progressive, fatal diseas we call addiction from the humanity. Thank you Henry for letting me get to know you and touching my life; I hope your at peace.
    Sincere nameste,
    Eric
