Jon and I took G to her first post-hospital-discharge pediatric check up today. We saw our pediatrician of the last 16 years, which I thought might be hard for me, and it was. I remember so many visits over the years with Henry to that office.
G’s weight is now down to 4lbs and 12 oz, but the doctor told us not to worry because she is now nursing so well. He expects her to start gaining any day now, and we’re shooting at getting back to her birthweight (5lbs and 7.8 ozs) by her two week checkup.
In the meantime, our impossibly tiny and ridiculously cute youngest child is definitely smaller than a breadbox.

So happy for you – the room, the perfect little peach of a baby, the pediatrician who knows you so well, and the good eater! I know it’s all bittersweet, but I’m happy for your happiness.
Blessings — she’ll celebrate her first July 4th at home!

A tease like that an no picture?? So happy she’s doing well!
Baby G is so precious! I am willing to bet she tops her birth weight at the next check up. The room is absolutely adorable. Your family, extended family and friends did a wonderful job. What a great room for sisters. I hope you and your family have a perfect holiday weekend and I look forward to seeing as many pictures as you can take of that beautiful little Georgia peach
She is gorgeous. My 3rd son was preemie (all mykids are adopted though) and he was 4# 2 oz when we brought him home. I was sooooooo scared because he was tiny and had that “not finished cooking” yet look. G is gorgeous and looks so perfect. KC was good at eating even when he was sleeping so he gained quickly and i bet she will too. Blessings to you all as you heal slowly from your loss.
ABSOLUTELY adorable!!!!!!
She’s absolute perfection, Katie. Congratulations to all of you and SO much love.
G is so precious and doesn’t look like she came early! (aside from being a little thing!)
Good encouraging news! What a blessing.
I’ve been wondering what E’s reaction was when you finally got a hold of him at camp.
What was his reaction??
Breast compressions (google) while she is sucking will help her get more milk, and specifically more hindmilk.
What good news! Your ped sounds wonderful! Our dd9 was 5’9″ when she was born, and of course, she lost weight the first few days. Our ped wanted her back to back birth weight at her two week checkup and when I read what you wrote here, I remember that she not only got back to her birth weight, she may have gone past it by an ounce or two! You are SO going to be able to do this! And, I was nursing twins.
I remember we went out after the peds visit and bought her a blanket at Gymboree to celebrate — WHAT were we thinking? We should have gone home and went to sleep!
Love all the photos!
Such a beautiful photo, can’t stop looking at it! Congrats to you and your family, what a blessing.
My daughter was just five lbs at birth and was soooo tiny. When I called a friend in Texas to announce the details she said, “well she’s just a little sack of sugar!”. That became her nickname. You should take a few pics of her next to other 5 lbs items for reference- a barbell, bag of flour, etc.
Enjoy the fact her clothes will last longer!
Such a precious little bundle!
I was born 2 mos early, spent my first month in an incubator and yet have not seen any pics of me in that time. I was only 4 pd 5 ounces at birth. My children were both almost 8 pds and I thought they were tiny so I couldn’t wrap my head around what 4 pds must look like. You’ve given me a glimpse of what that looks like.
Momma used to tell me that good things come in small packages and that I weighed less than a bag of sugar when they brought me home.
Daddy used to stretch me out on his legs when he was sitting on the sofa and he said I didn’t come close to touching his knees-
As for nicknames, try these on and see if any are a good fit for Miss G-my family used to call me G G and Daddy called me Peanut and Junebug. And when he really wanted to get my attention he’d use my middle name…
I was Georgia Alice for years and years until folks stopped using it for some reason.
Enough of my ramblings-
Can’t wait to get to meet her! Take care-
