Help Us Celebrate Henry’s Birthday

Hi folks. This is Katie’s sister, Betsy. As many of you know, tomorrow is Henry’s 19th birthday. It’s going to be a hard day for the family so I wanted to do something to honor it without any pressure.

Here is the plan. I’ve created a Facebook group called Acts of Kindness for Henry. It’s my hope that tomorrow lots of folks will perform an act of kindness in his honor and post it on the group wall for our family to see. If you want to participate, CLICK HERE to join and do something nice.

Created with Admarket’s flickrSLiDR.

Please feel free to pass this on. You can never have too much kindness in the world. THANK YOU!!!!!!

  1. I have joined and made my pledge.

I have been spending some time looking through the photos posted here and on Facebook and I get completely overwhelmed with the vast and utter tragedy that Henry's death has bestowed on the world. There is something about him that is compelling, and if the image of his face and the knowledge that he is gone is not a call to arms for our families, our communities and our society as a whole to band together to try and conquer the plague of drug addiction in our youth, I don't know what would be.

Tell Henry's story to your kids. Show them his beautiful face. Tell them that bad choices made by good kids can change the course of our communal journeys.

I am so grateful to Katie and her family for sharing Henry with us.

I feel so strongly that he had a special mission in life – one that he is completing even now.

  2. Hi – I became a reader of Katie's blog via Babble and have been very moved by what your family has gone through. Via reading Katie's blog, I also came to read Jackie __ (I don't know her last name)'s blog "Always Mom of 4." It looks like their family has an annual party/celebration of their son's life on his birthday. That's such a nice idea that I wanted to pass it along, in case it might be something that Katie and your extended family would be interested in doing. Here's a link to her description of this summer's party if it would be of interest to you: http://alwaysmomof4.wordpress.com/2010/07/15/part

    Best wishes,
    Julia

My blog will introduce more people to Henry and the good that comes from honoring and remembering.
Such a hard day, praying that you feel Henry's presence as you make it through the day.
