Over at Babble today, I am recalling the trauma of my own kindergarten entrance exam back in the day, and I am worrying out loud (and at some length) about whether we should put C – and ourselves – through the same stress to try to get her into the high-achieving magnet school in our area of town.

Are the public schools there as bad as a portion of the police department? If so I would say do the magnet school.
(So, sorry this is the third time this posted. I clearly REALLY want to tell you about my early years.) What's funny to me about reading this is, is that I was also a teeny tiny small person for my age and my parents almost held me back a year because of it. I'm really glad they didn't, because one year later, I was STILL the shortest kid in the class and I would have been older than all my classmates AND the smallest. Yikes.
Christine – There are some fantastic public schools in our county, I am happy to say
My five year old is considered "behind" in kindergarten because he can't read…. He goes to a Knox county public school.
I have heard good things about that magnet program.
Just the idea of entrance exams for ANY kindergarten kind of blows my mind.
