As Ackermann’s Director of Digital and Social Media, Katie Allison Granju guides clients in creating customized strategies for effective online engagement and branding.
Prior to her role with Ackermann, Katie served as Digital Project Manager with E.W. Scripps’ Interactive Newspaper Group, and she spent four years as Senior Online Producer with the Gannett/NBC TV affiliate in Knoxville, TN, winning numerous awards for her interactive work. While at WBIR-TV, Katie served as producer for Bill Williams’ award-winning “Our Stories” TV series, as well as for the station’s weekly public affairs program, “Inside Tennessee.” Katie began her professional career in digital and social media as one of the first online producers brought on board when the Oxygen Network was launched by cable television pioneer Geraldine Laybourne.
Katie’s own “mommyblog” is currently listed as one of the 50 most popular parenting blogs on Facebook’s Networked Blogs platform, and she is a featured blogger at Babble.com, which was recently named by Nielsen as among the 50 most influential “momblogs” in the U.S. She is the author of a parenting book published by Simon and Schuster, and her freelance writing has been published in The New York Times, Salon.com, the Chicago Tribune, Harvard Journalism School’s Nieman Reports, and a wide variety of other print and online publications. Her essays have been published in a number of literary nonfiction anthologies, including the New York Times‘ “Modern Love” collection. Katie has also served as a guest panelist on the ABC News “Moms Get Real” program, hosted by Juju Chang.
She is a frequent invited speaker on topics related to interactive journalism and social media, and is the founder of the Knoxville Social Media Association (KSMA). Katie is often quoted in trade and national press on social media-related topics, particularly as these relate to parents and moms. She is the founder and moderator for the Linked In group for social media professionals interested in parenting bloggers and blogging.
Katie’s current and recent digital strategy clients include the Centers for Disease Control, HGTV, Oak Ridge Associated Universities, Berkshire Hathaway-owned Clayton Homes, Cellular Sales, Ruby Tuesday, Inc, Invisible Fence, and others.
