The Life and Times of Katie

My name is Katie Allison Granju.

I was born in Los Angeles.

I have a younger brother and sister to whom I am exceptionally close, as well as cousins I love like siblings.

I spent several years of my early childhood living in a VW bus and then a run down farmhouse in rural, 1970s Washington State.

In 1976, my family migrated en masse to Bell Buckle, TN, which is where I grew up and consider home.

I attended The Webb School, The University of London and the University of Tennessee. I am a law school dropout (quit after two years; how stupid was that?)

I am an author, a freelance writer and I’ve worked extensively in online media. You can see my whole professional history – blah, blah, blah – over at my Linked In profile.

I am a featured blogger at Babble.com.

I’m married to Jonathan Hickman , and we live in a 100 year old Victorian house (that needs a whole lot of work) in a historic city neighborhood in Knoxville, Tennessee.

I am the mother of five children. J is 15, E is 12, C is 3 and G was born June 27th, 2010. My beloved son Henry Louis Granju died on May 31, 2010. Our family has started a non-profit foundation in Henry’s memory – Henry’s Fund.

I enjoy reading, horses, walks, powerpop, good beer and throwing parties. I’m a political junkie, a feminist and a progressive Episcopalian.
